Newcastle United have begun to fear the worst when it comes to Alexander Isak’s future at the club.

Eddie Howe has been working tirelessly in recent weeks to navigate the barrage of questions directed towards his star striker, but even he knows he may be fighting a losing battle.

Alexander Isak has made it clear that he wishes to depart for Liverpool at whatever cost.

His relationship with the club appears to be in tatters and despite Luke Edwards earlier dropping an article that Newcastle United will look to block any transfer of Isak this summer, little can be done if the Swede continues to burn bridges.

Chief Football Writer for Newcastle United at Chronicle Live Lee Ryder has provided a fresh update that puts Liverpool back in the driving seat.

According to Ryder, attempted clear the air talks between Howe and Isak failed miserably, with the striker’s head now considered to be completely turned towards a move to Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has been training on late afternoons at the clubs training ground, hours after the rest of the team have left the building.

It is understood that the prospect of potential reintegration is now beyond reach, as Isak made it clear that he had no desire to play in Newcastle United’s upcoming pre-season double header against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid.

As mentioned previously, Howe has been working overtime to keep morale high as they close in on the start of a new Premier League season, but did touch on the topic yesterday.

The manager said: “Training has been of a really high level.

I haven’t seen a negative output on the pitch, but I have been aware of feeling around the group that there’s something there that’s not to the benefit of the group.”

Alexander Isak’s time at Newcastle United is seemingly up, and the club will have to hastily pull together an agreement for a new striker and even a back-up, otherwise they face a difficult season ahead.
