Newcastle United are looking to make serious moves in the transfer market this summer.
The Carabao Cup champions also qualified for the Champions League this season, meaning they can attract the kind of top-quality talent Eddie Howe desires.
It is already clear that they will not letting go of star man Alexander Isak this summer having qualified for Europe’s premier club competition.
Meanwhile, there have been plenty of Magpies links with Caoimhin Kelleher, who looks set to depart this summer to pursue a No.1 spot at another club.
However, the Athletic have already ruled out those links.
But one player that is firmly in the sights of Newcastle is Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The Telegraph have reported that the Geordie club is now looking to make a swoop for the defender this summer.
The Magpies’ interest comes amid the impending departure of sporting director Paul Mitchell, who will exit at June’s end without making a single first-team signing during his 10-month tenure.
Mitchell’s imminent departure has intensified pressure on Newcastle’s hierarchy to secure the transfer before the summer window gets busy.
Despite internal upheaval, the Telegraphs Luke Edwards reports that a Newcastle United senior source told him:
“Everything is in place, all the work that has been done on players has been finished and now we have to push the button and get those deals done?
We know who we want.”
The 24-year-old defender represents a tactical priority for Howe, who views him as the ball-playing center-back needed to elevate Newcastle’s Champions League ambition
DaveOCKOP exclusively revealed that Liverpool held talks with Marc Guehi’s representatives back in March.
One of the other factors that place Marc Guehi in a favourable light is that he would be classed as a homegrown player – counting towards the quota required in a 25-man squad.
Guehi’s contract expires in 2026 and Palace’s FA Cup-induced European qualification create complex negotiating dynamics.
Newcastle now aims to leverage the defender’s dwindling contract, targeting a fee below last year’s valuation of £65 million.
