Newcastle United are seemingly coming to terms with the fact that Alexander Isak could be playing as a Liverpool player next season.
The decisive moment may arrive as early as mid-week.
One report claimed that Liverpool have pencilled in a face-to-face meeting with Newcastle executives within the next 48 hours and are prepared to open negotiations at roughly £120 million, rising with performance-related bonuses.
And it seems the Magpies are now “fearing” what could happen next.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Merseyside reporter Lewis Steele explained that Newcastle United are well aware that Liverpool will be making an official bid imminently:
“Newcastle are ready for that first bid to come for Alexander Isak.
I do think that Liverpool will make a play at Isak now,” he began.
“Do I think he will join.
Well it depends on Newcastle.
It’s too early to say but I do have a sneaky feeling that this one will end up happening or at least a bid will happen.”
He adds that Liverpool are preparing the bid and that the Swede is desperate for the move to Anfield:
“Only info I have is Liverpool are preparing a bid?
I don’t have any information into whether Newcastle will play ball and I don’t think anyone does at this stage.”
“Isak is desperate for the move to LFC.”
Isak himself appears to have made up his mind.
The Swede has already turned down a tax-free £600,000-a-week proposal from Al Hilal, the clearest indication yet that his priority lies in challenging for titles in England rather than collecting pay cheques in Saudi Arabia.
That stance gives Liverpool leverage; it also places further strain on Newcastle, whose owners must decide whether an unhappy asset is worth more on the pitch or on the balance sheet.
