Newcastle United and Liverpool’s summer transfer windows have become inextricably linked through the pursuit of Sweden striker Alexander Isak.

From the moment Liverpool lodged an opening bid north of £110 million, Newcastle’s transfer strategy shifted, with manager Eddie Howe publicly distancing the club from negotiations and sidelining Isak from first-team activities when he refused a new contract.

This stand-off prompted Newcastle to accelerate alternative forward targets, exploring deals for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

But it seems there has been a deal between the two English sides, but it’s just not Alexander Isak.

Newcastle United have announced that they have secured the signature of 16-year-old defender Isaac Moran from Liverpool FC.

He has agreed to join Chris Moore’s under-18s squad as a first-year scholar.

A product of Liverpool’s youth system, Moran made his under-18s debut at just 15 in March 2024 and has captained England at under-15 level, earning six caps.

Moran joined the club’s youth setup at under-9 level.

During his time at Kirkby, Moran captained multiple age-group sides, leading Liverpool’s under-15s on and off the pitch and helping them reach the latter stages of the FA Youth Cup.

Academy Director Steve Harper said: “Isaac joins us with a strong pedigree and a maturity beyond his years.

“The leadership qualities he has displayed to date speak volumes about his character, and we’re excited to help him continue developing both as a player and a person.

“He’s a driven individual who fits the values of our Academy perfectly.”

“Isaac’s addition to the Academy reflects the continued excellence of our recruitment team, whose efforts remain integral to our long-term strategy.”
