While Liverpool continue reshaping their squad under Arne Slot, there’s a quieter situation developing at Newcastle United that’s starting to catch attention.
The Magpies, who secured Champions League football despite a 1-0 loss to Everton on the final day last season, have remained tight-lipped about Alexander Isak.
But its no longer news that the Swedish striker has eyes on Anfield.
Liverpool are said to be keen on him—and understandably so.
Isak fits the profile: technical, sharp, and Premier League-proven.
But Newcastle, if they let him go, don’t want to let him go without a plan.
Behind the scenes, they’re already reportedly exploring replacements.
One name is coming up more than any other—and it’s not someone from inside the Premier League.
But they’re not limiting their options either, with reports also linking them to Wolves’ target man Jørgen Strand Larsen.
For Liverpool fans, the focus is obviously on the possible arrival of Isak.
But equally interesting is how seriously Newcastle are preparing in case they lose him.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are in advanced discussions for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
And they’re not holding back.
Romano said via his YouTube channel, “Newcastle are prepared to pay whatever they want.
Leipzig and Sesko of course—whatever they want—I don’t mean they can pay anything but what’s needed.”
That includes the full transfer fee Leipzig would demand, and the salary package Sesko’s camp is seeking.
The idea is simple—if Isak does leave, Sesko will be ready to step in as a marquee replacement.
But Manchester United are not out of the picture.
In fact, Romano revealed that, “Sesko is very open to the conversation with Manchester United.”
“Even without European football, even without Champions League football… Sesko is very open.”
Talks between United and Sesko have moved beyond basic negotiations.
Romano added, “Now the conversation between United and Sesko is entering into details of the project, of the vision, what they want to do.”
“So not only financial details because Man United are talking to Red Bull Leipzig, and Man United are talking to the agent, but also the project.”
United believe their sporting vision might win the race.
“Man United are entering into details of the vision they have for Benjamin Sesko, and the player is open to the move,” he said.
Even so, there’s no rush on Sesko’s end.
Romano made that clear, “He’s not deciding today, he’s not deciding tomorrow.”
“I keep repeating now—it’s going to take some days, not too long, but some days for Sesko to decide.”
From Liverpool’s perspective, this entire story matters.
If Isak really wants to make the move to Anfield, Newcastle will want a top-tier striker locked in before they even pick up the phone.
And the fact they’re willing to “pay whatever” for Sesko?
That tells you they’re bracing for something big.
