Newcastle United have been prioritising the addition of two strikers to their squad before even entertaining the possibility of selling wantaway forward Alexander Isak.

The Magpies have already rejected a bid from Liverpool this summer and have placed a £150million valuation on their star striker.

Eddie Howe earlier confirmed that Newcastle are making good progress in their bid to sign Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.

The move could pave the way for a potential departure of Isak, as the Magpies continue to reshape their attacking options ahead of the transfer deadline.

Newcastle have endured a frustrating summer in the transfer market, with failed pursuits of Yoane Wissa, Benjamin Šeško, and Hugo Ekitike among others, due to rejected bids or players choosing other destinations.

However, Woltemade is now set to arrive at St James’ Park.

The towering forward scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga last season and will bolster Howe’s front line following Callum Wilson’s departure earlier in the window.

“Positive signs,” Howe said.

“Things are moving and developing in a good way at the moment.

Until things are done, I can’t confirm anything.

“I don’t think that [a debut against Leeds] will be possible due to lots of reasons I don’t understand.

“The most important thing is to bring a centre forward in which we have been working on all summer, and we’re getting closer.

“I think the last month has been the same, it’s been relentless, it’s a demanding window in lots of different ways.

The work that’s gone in, it’s been detailed, it has to be, we have to bring the right players to the football club.

“We look like we’re getting closer, we’re certainly working in the right direction?

It’ll be good when the window closes, we can focus on what we do

The emotion around the window will be gone, but there are benefits to the window.

“We’re still looking, there’s an opportunity to improve the squad further, small steps really, let’s get the deal we’re working on done.

“Difficult for me to give you clarity on the future [of Isak], I don’t know what the future holds, I’m not dealing with it myself, I’ve got no update, concentrating on bringing players to the club.”

According to the Daily Mail, Wolves striker Jorgen Strand-Larsen is set to miss Saturday’s clash with Everton as he pushes for a move to Newcastle.

The Magpies have had two bids rejected, the latest worth £55m, but remain interested despite closing in on a £65m deal for Woltemade.

Wolves insist the 25-year-old is not for sale, though Strand-Larsen has expressed his desire to join Newcastle.

He is unlikely to feature this weekend while the Magpies weigh up a third offer.
