Woltemade is expected to sign a six-year contract after completing his medical.
Despite this, Newcastle remain in the market for another striker following Callum Wilson’s move to West Ham and Alexander Isak’s refusal to play.
The Magpies have made multiple bids for Jorgen Strand Larsen and Yoane Wissa, but both were rejected.
Newcastle first offered £50million for Strand Larsen, followed by £55million, but Wolves are unwilling to sell this window.
The striker has expressed his desire to join Newcastle, but a move appears unlikely.
Similarly, Newcastle’s bids for Wissa, initially £35million and then £40million, were both rejected by Brentford.
Eddie Howe has described Newcastle’s pursuit of Nick Woltemade as “positive.”
“Positive signs,” said Howe in his press conference ahead of facing Leeds United.
“Things are moving and developing in a good way at the moment.”
“We look like we’re getting closer, we’re certainly working in the right direction.
“It’ll be good when the window closes, we can focus on what we do
The emotion around the window will be gone, but there are benefits to the window.
“We’re still looking, there’s an opportunity to improve the squad further, small steps really, let’s get the deal we’re working on done.
“Difficult for me to give you clarity on the future [of Isak], I don’t know what the future holds, I’m not dealing with it myself, I’ve got no update, concentrating on bringing players to the club.”
According to talkSPORT, “Newcastle United haven’t given up hope of signing either Jorgen Strand Larsen or Yoane Wissa before the end of the transfer window.”
