Liverpool’s transfer business has understandably been put on hold over the last week or so.

The club have been plunged into unprecedented circumstances with the tragic passing of Diogo Jota but will look to get back into the market as they navigate through these testing times.

Hugo Ekitike is an exciting young forward currently employed by Eintracht Frankfurt, and he has been generating serious transfer interest after an impressive Bundesliga campaign in 2024/25.

The French striker scored 22 goals and registered 12 assists in 48 appearances and as a result is a target for multiple clubs this summer, including Liverpool.

Liverpool had seemingly been edging ahead in the race for Ekitike’s signature, but another Premier League club has now entered the fold that could spice things up.

According to Luke Edwards of the Telegraph, Newcastle United have rekindled their interest in Hugo Ekitike as they look to pull off an ambitious swoop that will see the French forward play alongside Alexander Isak, rather than replace him.

Alexander Isak has been a long-term target for Liverpool, but with Newcastle standing firm on their stance that the Swede is not for sale, they are now looking to Ekitike to strengthen their attacking department.

Newcastle face the exciting prospect of Champions League football next season, as well as three domestic competitions to contend with, and are therefore looking at securing a high quality forward that can rotate with Isak next season.

Eddie Howe has Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes occupying the left-flank, with new £55m signing Anthony Elanga proving depth alongside Jacob Murphy on the right-wing, but Alexander Isak currently has no direct competition.

U21 Denmark international William Osula is currently the only senior striker at the club following the departure of Callum Wilson.

The report goes on to state that given the likes of Manchester United, Cheslea and Liverpool have all been linked with the 23-year-old, Newcastle are naturally cautious, but they are said to now be looking into the possibility of striking a deal with the Bundesliga side.

Newcastle United have attempted to sign Hugo Ekitike twice before.

Once in Jnauary 2022 nd again in the summer transfer window later that year.

They will face stern competition from Liverpool and other Premier League clubs if they are to open negotiations with the player.

It is clear to see that whoever does strike a deal for Hugo Ekitike this summer, they will be getting a top-class player as his talent has been highlighted by many of the Premier League’s top clubs.
