Liverpool have received some bad news regarding a possible Alexander Isak deal.
At this point, it’s well advertised that Newcastle United want to bring in replacement signings before sanctioning a sale of their star Swedish striker.
The Magpies’ attention has turned to Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.
This pursuit, and Brentford’s swift agreement to bring in Dango Ouattara as a Wissa replacement, has given many Reds fans hope.
The dominoes could fall: if Newcastle secure Wissa, they could finally sanction Isak’s long-rumored switch to Liverpool.
The Reds have made Isak their top target for their forward ranks, submitting a £110 million bid already, and are eager to wrap up business before the window closes
However, Newcastle have held firm, wanting a replacement in place before letting Isak go.
But it appears that the dominoes needed for Isak to make the switch to Merseyside this summer are refusing to fall into place.
talkSPORT have reported that Brentford are continuing to block Yoane Wissa’s move to Newcastle.
The Bees reportedly remain adamant that the forward is not for sale unless their hefty valuation – believed to be in excess of £60million – is met in full.
Newcastle are preparing to restart negotiations this week, confident they have the player’s support.
However, they are unlikely to increase their offer beyond £40 million due to Wissa’s age of 28 and having just one year remaining on his contract.
Brentford, meanwhile, still hold an option to extend his contract by an additional year.
Wissa is reportedly confident that a move will be approved, but Brentford maintain that it is currently more probable he will remain with the club.
Alexander Isak is set to shoulder a club-record fine for not appearing for Newcastle in their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.
With around two weeks remaining in the transfer window, much can still unfold, and if Alexander Isak chooses to keep sitting out Premier League matches for Newcastle United, tensions are bound to escalate.
But for now, no Yoane Wissa to Newcastle United has only made a deal for the Swede more difficult.
