Newcastle United’s ambitious €80 million bid for RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko was swiftly this past weekend, with the German side insisting on a package that includes add-ons and a sell-on clause.
But talks for the Slovenian are set to carry on between the two clubs.
With Alexander Isak pushing to leave following a preseason omission, Sesko has become a domino piece this summer – if Sesko signs, Isak can head to Liverpool, and the Reds have already lodged a formal £110 million offer for the Swedish marksman.
DaveOCKOP exclusively reported on Friday that Alexander Isak will submit a formal transfer request if the situation does not become clear imminently.
Manchester United are also circling Sesko, with the Magpies and the Red Devils jostling for the striker’s services.
Leipzig’s valuation remains firm: an initial €75 million with performance incentives and a guaranteed sell-on percentage, rather than Newcastle’s straight-cash offer.
But while the two clubs iron out talks, it seems that the Magpies want Sesko to make a decision on where he wants to join sooner rather than later.
Indeed, Ben Jacobs has reported that the Geordie side have given Sesko 48 hours to make a choice before they move on:
“Newcastle want an answer from Benjamin Sesko within 48 hours,” he wrote.
“NUFC now confident they can reach an agreement with Leipzig but have no plans to allow the saga to drag on to the latter part of this week without clarity.”
“Manchester United still in the race.
Leipzig awaiting a formal offer?
As of Monday morning, only verbal club-to-club talks with suggestions of a formal offer premature.”
The ultimatum to Sesko underscores Newcastle’s belief that securing the deal could reshape their attacking options – and trigger a seismic swing in the wider market, potentially sending Isak to Merseyside and reshuffling the Premier League’s striking ranks.
