Newcastle are set to land a huge payout from FIFA as they submit an insurance claim regarding a summer signing who is yet to feature for the club.
Newcastle struggled to get a number of deals over the line throughout the summer window as Alexander Isak’s transfer saga with Liverpool rumbled on until deadline day.
Eddie Howe will have been left disappointed at Newcastle’s transfer dealings throughout the window, but they did eventually get some moves over the line as Nick Woltemade joined the club from Stuttgart and Jacob Ramsey arrived from Aston Villa, among others.
His side have not started the 2025-26 season well due to their slow business, with just one win from their first five Premier League games as Woltemade notched the winner against Wolves on 13 September.
A certain summer signing is yet to even feature for the club amid their scoring woes, but Newcastle have now been boosted by his absence with help from a FIFA scheme.

Newcastle signed Yoane Wissa from Brentford on deadline day as his own long summer saga eventually ended with a big-money move to the Tyneside club.
Wissa suffered a serious knee injury for DR Congo against Senegal on 9 September, before he had even made his Magpies bow, and he was ruled out by Howe for around six weeks as a result.

The Daily Mail (25 September) have now revealed that Newcastle are set to land a compensation payout from FIFA for Wissa’s injury, after the club’s chiefs applied for the package as part of the Club Protection Programme (CPP).
FIFA’s CPP is an insurance scheme that covers clubs whose players are injured playing for their country and are then unavailable for more than 28 consecutive days, which means that his wages will be covered from October 7 until the day he eventually makes his Newcastle debut, which could well be a few weeks after that date.
Wissa’s 19 league goals helped Brentford to a 10th-placed finish last season, and Newcastle clearly need him fully fit as quickly as possible amid their current struggles to score goals in league games.
Howe’s side have only netted three times in their first five league outings, but they will have to do without the 29-year-old for a while yet as he continues to recover and then builds up his match fitness.

Howe recently admitted that the club have been “looking at the other side of the international break” in terms of when Wissa will be fit, but it seems unlikely that he will be rushed back immediately as he gets up to speed, meaning he could make his Newcastle debut against Benfica on 21 October.
The Magpies boss will be relieved to have him at his disposal when he can feature, and it could well provide him with somewhat of a selection dilemma as he chooses who to start between Wissa and Woltemade.
