Transfer battles are a part of any window, and Liverpool will be in for another one here if they choose to push to sign this player.
Telegraph Sport have revealed that Newcastle United are ready to step up their pursuit of Brighton forward Joao Pedro after missing out on the possibility of signing Bryan Mbuemo after the Brentford talisman opted for a move to Manchester United instead.
Eddie Howe will look to add attacking depth to his side this summer as they look to build on their Carabao Cup triumph from this season as well as the welcomed return of the Champions League to St.
James’ Park.
Joao Pedro is a man who has been tentatively linked to Liverpool for a while now.
Quiet rumblings have occurred, with Fabrizio Romano confirming in late May that Pedro looked likely to depart Brighton this summer, and Liverpool join several other clubs who have expressed interest.
The Reds were reportedly “seriously considering” Joao Pedro as the club have been keeping tabs on him since he first arrived in the Premier League with Watford back in 2020.
Joao Pedro was left out of the matchday squad at the end of the season, but Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler confirmed that “the matter is closed” and there is no hostility between player and club.
Despite this, Brighton are braced for bids for their star forward this summer, as Howe eyes a wide forward who can effectively cut inside and he sees Pedro as the ideal candidate for that.
Newcastle return to Europe’s most prestigious competition could also play a pivotal role in convincing players to join the club.
Liverpool were strongly linked to Newcastle’s star striker Alexander Isak in the last few months of last season, but speculation has since quietened down after recent developments have told us that Liverpool are about to spend over £110m on Florian Wirtz.
This will mean that any funds directed towards Isak are most likely no longer available, as the Swedish attacker would also cost over £100m.
Liverpool are focusing on the Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez deals and so if Newcastle United move quickly in their pursuit of Joao Pedro, Liverpool could see that opportunity slip out of reach.
