Newcastle United finds itself in an increasingly precarious position as Alexander Isak continues his determined campaign to secure a move to Liverpool, with the Swedish striker doubling down on his transfer demands despite high-level intervention from the club’s Saudi ownership.

The 25-year-old striker has maintained his unwavering stance following crunch talks with Newcastle’s hierarchy at his home on Monday evening.

Co-owner Jamie Reuben and Public Investment Fund board member Jacobo Solis made a last-ditch visit to Isak’s residence, but their efforts to convince him to abandon his Liverpool ambitions proved unsuccessful.

According to reports, Isak “reiterated his desire to leave” during the face-to-face meeting and “sees no way back at St James’ Park”.

The striker remains adamant about his position despite the intervention of chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who was present at Monday’s 3-2 defeat to Liverpool but did not participate in the home visit.

Wolves have turned down two substantial offers for Jorgen Strand Larsen, with the most recent £55 million bid being rejected on Tuesday night.

The Norwegian striker scored twice in Wolves’ 3-2 Carabao Cup victory over West Ham just hours after Newcastle’s offer was declined.

Newcastle’s pursuit of Brentford’s Yoane Wissa has proven equally challenging.

The Magpies have had multiple bids rejected, with their last offer of £35 million plus £5 million in add-ons being turned down.

The 28-year-old DR Congo international, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, remains eager for the move to St James’ Park but Brentford are reluctant to lose another key player after already selling Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United and Christian Nørgaard to Arsenal.

But for Reds fans, there is still some hope.

Craig Hope of the Daily Mail has reported that the Geordie side will likely make a third bid soon:

“Wolves have rejected an improved £55million offer from Newcastle for striker Jorgen Strand-Larsen,” he reported in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“Daily Mail Sport can reveal that Newcastle’s new bid landed on Tuesday evening – just as the Norwegian was scoring twice to clinch a 3-2 Carabao Cup win over West Ham – but it was swiftly rebuffed by the Molineux hierarchy, just one day on from rejecting an opening approach of £50m.”

“It remains likely that the Magpies will return with a third offer for Strand-Larsen as their summer-long search for a striker continues.”
