Newcastle United’s Anthony Elanga and Dan Burn react to Alexander Isak transfer

Plenty of Newcastle fans were not happy with the manner in which the Swede forced the transfer.

Alexander Isak was once celebrated as a hero at St James’ Park, with one of his 62 goals helping Newcastle end a 70-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup against Liverpool in March.

But it’s fair to say he’s not looked at in the same light by the Toon Army, with the manner in which he forced his move not sitting right with the fanbase

However, his teammates have not been so polarising.

Anthony Elanga, speaking to Fotbollskanalen during this September international break, has revealed that the situation has been “chill” regardless of fan sentiment:

“It’s been chill.

But we all think he’s a very good player.

“We’ve lost a good player but we’ve also signed good players.

I get the opportunity to play with him in the national team and that is also good.
“He is a fantastic player and a very good person.

Right now, he is a Liverpool player but I have the opportunity to play with him in the national team.”

Meanwhile, Dan Burn has wished nothing but the best for his now ex-teammate and does not harbour any ill-feelings:

“I’ve been in football long enough to understand that for a player, the careers are short and they’ve got things that they want to achieve,” Burn said ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier with Andorra on Saturday.

So I’ve got nothing but good wishes for Alex.

“No animosity, I think as a Newcastle fan, and you know what Newcastle fans are like, we’re very protective of our club, and our city.”

He added: “You want players to be there who want to play for Newcastle, and naively you don’t want them to think that there’s anywhere else to go, apart from playing at Newcastle.””So I understand why our fans are frustrated

But as I said, I think I’ve been in the game long enough now to understand what goes on.

“I wish Alex all the best, apart from when we play Liverpool.”
