They have agreed a deal to land Woltemade, according to Sky Germany, having accelerated their interest over the last few hours.
It is claimed that Woltemade has already said his goodbyes at Stuttgart and is on his way to England to complete the formalities of the deal.
It comes after Newcastle saw two bids rejected for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen.
He is believed to be keen on moving to St James Park but could end up staying at Molineux if Woltemade joins the Magpies as expected.
