Burnley defender Bashir Humphreys shared an emotional message to supporters that earned reaction from both his current and former teammates.
Burnley needed a stoppage-time winner from Oliver Sonne to edge past Derby County in the Carabao Cup.
Aaron Ramsey had opened the scoring before Bobby Clark equalised for Derby, but Scott Parker’s side found a way through late on.
One of the key positives for Burnley was the return of Humphreys, who joined the Burnley permanently in the summer following an impressive loan spell.
The former Chelsea defender had been sidelined for the final three months of Burnley’s promotion-winning campaign after suffering a quad injury in February, making his comeback all the more significant.
His first appearance in months drew plenty of support, with current and former and teammates alike welcoming his return to competitive action.
After his initial injury proved worse than first expected, Humphreys shared a message on Instagram following his long-awaited return to action.
He said: “Back with the boys after 7 months out!!
Feels good & even better to get the cup win!”

He was one of 17 homegrown or young players sent out on loan by Chelsea last season, with Burnley beating Leeds United to Humphrey’s signature last summer.
He made 28 appearances – including 22 starts – in a record-breaking campaign for the Clarets, as they equalled a Football League record by keeping 30 clean sheets.

With Parker starting Humphreys back in the line-up, another notable feature was Mike Tresor, who has been linked with an exit ahead of the transfer deadline on 1 September.
Reports suggest Tresor is expected to leave Turf Moor, with manager Parker not viewing him as part of his long-term plans.
Tresor was left out of Burnley’s first two league fixtures and, despite a substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup, his future appears to lie away from the club., as Espanyol continue to be linked.
