Yoane Wissa appears to have opened talks with the Brentford hierarchy as the winger attempts to push through a move to Newcastle United.

Wissa’s situation has been compared to Alexander Isak’s, with both being slammed for their actions over the last few weeks, and Eddie Howe’s Magpies have been caught up in each scenario.

The Bees had initially turned down a £25million bid for the 28-year-old [The Athletic], who has just 12 months left on his current contract, and he is now being left out of matchday squads for the 2025/26 campaign.

He missed the 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in Keith Andrews’ first Premier League game in charge, but with Bryan Mbeumo moving to Man United, the Bees are in no rush to sell another star.

Wissa is clearly pushing for a move to St James’ Park, and has now opened talks with a senior figure at the club in an attempt to work through a transfer.

According to BBC Sport (20 August), before the Magpies reopened talks for the winger, Wissa held talks with Brentford owner Matthew Benham, a development which prompted discussions between the clubs.

The Bees have now turned down a second offer from Howe’s side, a bid worth £35million plus £5million in add-ons, which fell below his current club’s valuation of the player.

Wissa is more than keen to join Newcastle, but so far, Brentford have refused to sanction his exit until their valuation is met this summer.

The loss of Mbeumo to the Red Devils was painful enough, with Thomas Frank leaving for Tottenham, and Christian Norgaard joining Arsenal, but the frustrations do not stop there.

Having only been appointed during the summer, Andrews has already lost his first game in charge, and now could be without yet another attacking star before the 1 September deadline.

The Bees’ lack of choices in the final third was obvious during their opening-game defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, with Igor Thiago scoring their only goal from the penalty spot.

While Dango Ouattara has now been signed on a record deal from Bournemouth, he has only experienced one positive season in England, notching nine goals and four assists across all competitions last season.

Jordan Henderson, Antoni Milambo, and Caoimhin Kelleher‘s arrivals have not breathed hope into the nervous supporters, with the Bees still seen as one of the outside favourites to be relegated.

After the first game, they remain one spot above the relegation zone on goal difference, and if Wissa is to leave before the window closes, that is yet another blow to Brentford’s survival ambitions.
