Alexander Isak’s bullish statement on his situation at Newcastle has taken the club by surprise as he continues to demand a move away.
Isak played no part in the Magpies’ first Premier League game on Saturday (16 August) against Aston Villa amid his ongoing revolt and desire to join Liverpool this summer.
The Swede is refusing to feature for the club until he is allowed to join the Reds, but that move looks no closer to materialising with the new campaign now underway.
Liverpool’s first bid for Isak was rejected by Newcastle, who were unwilling to let him go for a package totalling £120million, but he still wants away, and Football Insider revealed on Friday (15 August) that Isak looks increasingly likely to move to Anfield soon as long he keeps refusing to play.
Isak released a shock statement about his Newcastle situation on Tuesday (19 August) evening, insisting that promises had been “broken” by the club and they had “lost” his trust, and a new development has revealed more about his surprise public revelation.

Newcastle continue to insist that Isak is not for sale despite him now going public with his issues against the club, and a new report has now revealed that they have been blindsided by his explosive words.
The Telegraph (19 August) have claimed that the Magpies “had no idea Isak was going to release such a confrontational statement” amid his absence from the PFA awards ceremony in Manchester, and they were “weighing up their response” when contacted by them on Tuesday evening.

Football Insider verdict
Newcastle’s recent successes under Howe have been headed by the firepower of their Swedish international striker, who has netted over 20 goals in each of his previous two league campaigns.
Isak has understandably been untouchable in the transfer market as far as Newcastle are concerned this summer, but the situation is completely beyond repair now that he has gone public with his issues, and any bid that reaches £150m will surely now be accepted due to the circumstances.

Newcastle’s owners will not be bullied by Liverpool this summer, and even given that Isak is trying to force his way out of St James’ Park, they should only sell for what they feel is right rather than be lowballed by the Reds due to him being unsettled and refusing to play.
The Swede currently has three years left on his contract, so the Magpies do not have to sell him by any means this summer, but if a bid of £150m comes in from the Reds, then they must let him leave to put an end to this ongoing saga and allow him to fulfil his dreams on Merseyside.
