Liverpool could be set to make another bid for Alexander Isak after transfer talks with a Newcastle United chief.
The Sweden international is currently refusing to play for the Tyneside club, as he looks to force a move to the Premier League champions.
Liverpool submitted an opening offer for Isak totalling £120million, which was rejected by the Magpies, and have yet to return with an improved bid.
On Monday (25 August) evening, Newcastle were beaten 3-2 by Arne Slot’s side, with chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan at the game.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Al-Rumayyan’s attendance at St James’ Park could mean one of two things.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness confirmed that Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben recently visited Isak to see if they could ‘patch things over’, and questioned whether Al-Rumayyan is in England to try and keep him at the club or negotiate a sale.

The Magpies have remained consistent in their view that there is a way back for the 25-year-old at St James’ Park, if the current issues can be resolved.
Wyness added that he is still half expecting Liverpool to come back with another bid for Isak this week.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It was a fantastic game to watch on Monday night, but we had the Newcastle chairman there.
“You’ve got to question Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the chairman at Newcastle.
Was he there to also make sure there’s a new offer and a new contract for Isak, or was he there to conduct the transfer business with Liverpool?

It’s going to be difficult.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle will have to pay over the odds if they’re to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies are still in the market for a striker, due to the situation regarding Isak.
Wolves are hesitant to sell their number nine just weeks after his permanent transfer, and as a result will demand a huge £60m package for Strand Larsen, more than double the £25m they paid to Celta Vigo.
Newcastle had an initial £50m bid for the 25-year-old rejected on Monday (25 August), and have now had a second offer of £55m turned down.
