Newcastle are yet to make a fresh approach for Liverpool target Marc Guehi, who Crystal Palace value at £50million.
Guehi, 24, has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, who Mirror Football recently reported were in pole position.
But this time last year, Newcastle were pushing to sign him.
The Eagles have been forced to lower their asking price this summer, with Guehi having entered the final year of his contract.
But as things stand, Newcastle haven't gone back in for the FA Cup-winning captain.
The Reds are keen to bring in a centre-back who's younger than Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, the latter of whom has also entered the last 12 months of his deal amid rumoured interest from Real Madrid.

It's added that Guehi would be willing to run down his contract if Palace can't facilitate his sale before the summer transfer window closes on Monday, September 1.
The Magpies were desperate to sign Guehi a year ago but Palace chairman Steve Parish made it clear that they'd demand 'superstar money'.
Parish told BBC Sport: "We'd like to keep hold of him.
Somebody [in another interview] said he's a superstar, so somebody has got to pay superstar money.
Should Liverpool or Newcastle pay £50m for Marc Guehi?
