Liverpool have been heavily linked with Alexander Isak in recent weeks as they continue their search for a new forward.

Earlier this month, the Premier League champions saw a £110 million bid for Isak rejected by Newcastle United.

At present, the Reds are not planning to return with an improved offer unless there is a clear indication that the Magpies are willing to sell the 25-year-old.

On Tuesday night, Isak released an explosive statement regarding his transfer stand-off, declaring that his future with Newcastle “cannot continue” due to what he described as “broken promises” from the club.

Newcastle quickly responded with a statement of their own, insisting they had listened to the striker’s concerns and made efforts to facilitate his wishes.

However, the club added that they now expect him to rejoin the squad.

Isak has yet to feature under Eddie Howe since Newcastle’s return to pre-season.

Although he has been spotted at the training ground, he has been training separately from the first team, who have already started their Premier League campaign.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe insists the “door is open” for Alexander Isak’s return despite fan backlash.

The striker missed the goalless opener at Aston Villa over the weekend as he pushes for a move.

“Nothing has changed,” Howe said.

“The door is well and truly open.

“He has to decide what he wants to do.

You don’t need any kind of distraction.

“I am not in control of that.

I am concentrating on the team.”

Speculation continues to suggest Liverpool could make another move before the September 1 deadline.

Those rumours have been fuelled by Newcastle’s growing links to several forwards, with a new name now entering the discussion.

The Magpies’ latest offer, valued at £35million plus a further £5m in add-ons considered difficult to achieve, was rejected by the Bees.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle are showing interest in Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The 25-year-old is said to be one of a number of forwards under consideration, though talks are taking place through intermediaries rather than directly between the clubs.

Strand Larsen is believed to be open to a move to St James’ Park, although he is not actively pushing for an exit from Molineux.

Newcastle have also been linked with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, Paris Saint-Germain’s Goncalo Ramos, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, all of whom are viewed as potential replacements should Isak depart.
