Newcastle fans have urged the club to make a move for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke following a fresh update on his future.

It’s been a frustrating summer so far for the Magpies, with the club missing out on several top targets.

According to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, Van Hecke “will not extend his contract with Brighton” despite receiving multiple offers for a renewal.

They also report that “Newcastle have sent an enquiry” regarding his availability this week and are now closely monitoring the situation as he could be available for £43 million.

Newcastle reportedly held provisional talks over a potential deal for Van Hecke earlier in the window, and it now appears the club are beginning to step up their interest.

It’s no surprise the Dutchman is attracting attention.
