Newcastle fans have urged the club to make a move for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke following a fresh update on his future.
It’s been a frustrating summer so far for the Magpies, with the club missing out on several top targets.
James Trafford opted for a move to Manchester City, while forward options such as Liam Delap and Joao Pedro chose Chelsea over a switch to St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe has made signing a new centre-back on the list of targets, having maintained a long-term interest in Marc Guehi, while Newcastle also tracked Dean Huijsen before he finalised a move to Real Madrid.
Now, momentum could build around Van Hecke as Newcastle look to accelerate plans following the latest developments surrounding the Brighton defender.

According to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, Van Hecke “will not extend his contract with Brighton” despite receiving multiple offers for a renewal.

They also report that “Newcastle have sent an enquiry” regarding his availability this week and are now closely monitoring the situation as he could be available for £43 million.
Newcastle reportedly held provisional talks over a potential deal for Van Hecke earlier in the window, and it now appears the club are beginning to step up their interest.
It’s no surprise the Dutchman is attracting attention.
Van Hecke enjoyed a standout season at Brighton, earning multiple end-of-season awards for his composed and consistent performances at the back.
The 25-year-old made 34 appearances last term and established himself as a key figure under Fabian Hurzeler, helping Brighton finish an impressive eighth in the Premier League.
However, with the club already losing Joao Pedro to Chelsea, it remains to be seen whether they are willing to sanction a move for one of their starting centre-backs.

A new centre-back is expected to arrive at St James’ Park before the window closes, and Van Hecke has now emerged as a realistic target.
With Football Insider reporting that Guehi would prefer a move to Liverpool over a switch to Newcastle or Tottenham, the Magpies are actively weighing up other options.
Van Hecke’s potential availability has sparked excitement among supporters, and one fan reacted to the update by saying: “All over it at that price” while another added: “No brainer, he was class last season.”
