Newcastle has suffered 8 failed transfer bids for 5 strikers to replace Alexander Isak

Isak is currently training in isolation as he tries to force through the transfer before the window shuts, while Callum Wilson's switch to West Ham on a free transfer has left winger Anthony Gordon filling in as a striker in Newcastle's opening two Premier League games.

Newcastle is still pursuing a goalscorer and is readying a third offer for Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Premier League rival Wolves has already knocked back two approaches for the Norway international, who bagged 14 Premier League goals last season.

According to The Times, Newcastle has also been unsuccessful with two bids for Yoane Wissa, two for Joao Pedro, and one each for Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, respectively. 

Including those two rejected offers for Strand Larsen, Newcastle has had eight failed bids for five strikers.

Pedro eventually completed a switch to Chelsea, whilst Ekitike joined Liverpool, and Sesko signed for Manchester United.

"It seems like the striker market gets tighter every year," Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted earlier this month

"There's not many players of that calibre to make us better, and when they're potentially available, the price seems to go up, and then you are dealt other challenges like PSR, how much you spend in the window, the long-term effects if you do the transfer.

"It is not as clear as going out and getting any player

They have got to fit the team, make us better, and be affordable.

"That's not a large group of players."

Liverpool is poised to swoop in late for Isak if it receives any positive signals from Newcastle regarding the transfer, which could happen if the Magpies manage to secure some replacements.

Meanwhile, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has conceded that there's a possibility Strand Larsen might depart.
