Newcastle maintains that Alexander Isak is not for sale this summer despite Liverpool confirming its interest in a blockbuster swoop for the Swedish striker.
Despite already spending almost $250 million on the likes of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool's recruitment team is far from done and is now prioritizing a new No.9 before the start of the Premier League campaign.
Isak has been linked with Liverpool before, when Jurgen Klopp pushed for the signing of Darwin Nunez instead, and has remained on the radar, scoring twice against the Reds last season including in the Carabao Cup final.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool has not yet made a formal bid for the striker but have approached Newcastle with interest about striking an agreement for $161 million.
Liverpool has also been monitoring Hugo Ekitike and the news comes amid reports that Newcastle is looking to reach an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the striker
That has fueled speculation that he could replace Isak this summer.
Yet, the Telegraph reports that Newcastle is holding firm in its message that Isak is not for sale
It is claimed that the Magpies feel Liverpool's enquiry is a ploy to upset the striker, who is not pushing for a move at this stage.
Isak was Newcastle's record signing when he arrived in 2022 and he has scored a remarkable 62 goals in 109 games for the club, helping Eddie Howe's men qualify for the Champions League last season.
Alexander Isak during pre sason training
He is currently away with the Newcastle squad in Austria for a pre-season training camp, with the Magpies playing the first match of their tour against Celtic on Saturday.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool would be willing to increase its offer for Isak and there remains sensitivity around Anfield heading into the new season, following the death of Diogo Jota.
But there is an acceptance that a new striker is needed for Arne Slot, as he bids to retain the Premier League title and lead a Champions League push next season.
The news comes after Liverpool rejected a fresh offer from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz, who has made his desire to leave the club clear this summer.
The Reds remain insistent that Diaz will not be sold unless its $116 million valuation is reached, with Bayern's latest offer of $79 million not coming anywhere near that price tag.
