Liverpool links to Alexander Isak have once again picked up speed this week after the initial end of season clamour died down.
Reporter Ben Jacobs reported this week that the Anfield club are still interested in Isak, and could look to make a move for him this summer despite being poised to break the British transfer record for Florian Wirtz.
Isak has been identified as the Reds’ “dream target” for the No.9 position, with the 25-year-old forward netting an impressive 23 Premier League goals last season.
The financial scale of any potential deal is staggering, with Newcastle reportedly valuing their talismanic striker at between £130-150 million.
This would surpass the fee Liverpool are paying for Wirtz, which is set to be announced imminently.
Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport has taken the speculation one step further, suggesting Liverpool are prepared to “smash the money record that they’ve just put down for Florian Wirtz.
And according to prominent Newcastle United journalist Luke Edwards, the Magpies may budge from their not-for-sale stance should a big money bid come in.
Answering a question on whether Isak could be sold this summer in a Q&A session for the Chronicle, Edwards revealed:
“I personally think that Newcastle or any other club would find it hard to turn down £150m for any player IF that price is on the table.”
“It’s just an astronomical amount of money and if Liverpool were to really back up the speculation I think it turns into one of the biggest sensations in world football very quickly.”
The reporter then revealed that Newcastle CEO Darren Eales admitted “on record” that every player has a price – including Isak:
“And I always go back to CEO Darren Eales admitting on record on a Zoom call that every player has a price,” Edwards continued.
“If he is privy to conversations from the powers that be at Newcastle, then it feels like it could be done, yes.”
He added that Isak’s agent will be “pushing” for a more lucrative deal, be it at St James’ Park or as part of a big money move.
Newcastle United’s qualification for the Champions League next season adds a bargaining chip to the pile of the Geordie side.
What’s certain is that this transfer story is far from over?
After a period of silence, the links between Liverpool and Isak are now starting to emerge once again.
