William Osula is closing in on a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt from Newcastle in the closing stages of deadline day.

The Denmark Under-21 international joined the Magpies from Sheffield United last summer and has made 22 appearances since the move.

However, despite Alexander Isak striking to push through a move to Liverpool and Callum Wilson joining West Ham on a free transfer, Osula was still not considered as first-choice up top for Eddie Howe.

Instead, the ex-Bournemouth boss turned to Anthony Gordon as a makeshift striker, making clear that he did not view the 22-year-old as being ready to start for Newcastle.

And following Nick Woltemade’s arrival from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa’s impending arrival from Brentford, Osula now looks set to leave the Magpies in search of first-team minutes.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri revealed on X that Frankfurt are now “confident” that they can complete a deal for Osula.

The loan will have a fee attached of €5million (£4.3m), and a buy option of “around €20m” (£17.3m), taking the value of the deal to £21.6m if the purchase clause is triggered next summer.

However, with the transfer deadline looming, both clubs will have to work quickly to get a deal over the line.

There are a few things to be excited about if you’re a Newcastle supporter.

Woltemade and Wissa could be a deadly duo up top together, the club are back in the Champions League, and they have retained the services of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

However, that does little to distract from the chaotic mismanagement of what should have been a joyous window for the Magpies.

The lack of stability in the CEO role, and the lack altogether of a sporting director, have played a part in this summer’s debacle, but the fact of the matter is, Newcastle have massively overpaid for Wissa (and Woltemade to an extent) and they have missed out on too many targets.

Making a profit on Osula will be great if Frankfurt trigger his buy clause, but there needs to be a serious inquisition into how all of these deals have been left till deadline day before being completed, and the Magpies cannot have another window like this one in the future.
