Newcastle have responded after Alexander Isak made a damning and critical statement against the club on social media.

Both parties are at a stalemate with neither side refusing to budge on their stances.

Newcastle do not want to sell Isak and have set an asking price of £150million [BBC Sport] for the striker in the hopes that it will ward off interest from Liverpool.

The 25-year-old, in a bid to pressure his side into selling, has gone on strike and did not participate in any of his team’s pre-season preparations, or their opening game of the season against Aston Villa which finished as a 0-0 draw on Saturday (16 August).

The PFA awards took place on Tuesday, 19 August, and Isak was a notable absence despite being voted into the PFA’s Team of the Year.

Following the ceremony, the former Real Sociedad striker shared a post on Instagram, in which he highlighted “promises were made and that club has known my position for a long time”.

Isak also claimed “to now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading”, and the most damning part of his statement read “when promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue”.

Following the surprising post from the wantaway striker, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards shared on X that: “Newcastle United continue to insist this evening, despite Alexander Isak’s accusations on Instagram, that the player is not for sale.
