Newcastle United have reportedly reached a 'done deal' with VfB Stuttgart to sign German striker Nick Woltemade for a club-record transfer fee. The agreement involves a fixed fee of €85 million (£73.5 million) plus a further €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons. Woltemade, 23, is understood to be on his way to Tyneside and has already said goodbye to his teammates at Stuttgart's MHPArena. He is expected to undergo a medical within 24 hours to finalize the move.

This breakthrough comes amid Newcastle's struggles to strengthen their attacking options during the summer transfer window. They saw unsuccessful pursuits of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Hugo Ekitike, and Benjamin Sesko, while multiple bids for Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen were rejected.

Meanwhile, Alexander Isak, Newcastle’s Sweden international striker, has been pushing to leave the club and has attracted significant interest from Liverpool. However, Newcastle have insisted that Isak will not be sold unless a replacement is secured and their asking price is met. The impending signing of Woltemade is expected to act as that replacement, potentially unlocking the sale of Isak.

Reports suggest the Woltemade transfer fee surpasses Newcastle’s previous record of £63 million paid for Alexander Isak three years ago. This deal could have big ripples in the transfer market, especially for Liverpool, who may now be more inclined to make a second bid for Isak following Newcastle's acquisition of Woltemade.
