Newcastle fans have been giving their verdict on social media to a new development around Yoane Wissa’s move to the club from Brentford.
Wissa’s future has been up in the air over the last few weeks, with a move to St James’ Park in the balance amid the Magpies search for new forwards as Alexander Isak forces an exit.
His 19 league goals helped Brentford to a 10th-placed finish last season, and the Magpies saw their initial bid of £25million [Sky Sports] for him rejected last month, but Newcastle are preparing to return with a second offer for Wissa with the feeling in both camps that a move should happen soon.
Wissa threatened to refuse to play for Brentford again last month after he left their pre-season base in Portugal following Newcastle’s offer, and only returned to first-team training earlier in August following talks with new head-coach Keith Andrews.
The 28-year-old did not feature in the Bees’ season-opener against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (17 August) as he continues to push for a move to Tyneside, and he has now gone one step further in his pursuit of an exit.

According to a new update from the Daily Mail’s chief football reporter Craig Hope, Newcastle are “still focused” on a deal for Wissa and are “hopeful of reaching [an] agreement” with talks resuming this week.
The DR Congo international is clearly intent on leaving Brentford as soon as possible, as he took the step to delete everything related to the club from his Instagram page on Monday (18 August), and also unfollowed their account, with only posts about his national team and personal life left up.

Newcastle fans soon became aware of his actions after journalist Ben Jacobs posted about it on X, and a number of the St James’ Park faithful reacted in disgust on the platform amid comparisons to Isak’s situation, with one calling it: “Very unprofessional,” and another saying: “Newcastle should run a mile from Yoane Wissa.”
