Newcastle are preparing to ramp up their pursuit of Jorgen Strand Larsen after Vitor Pereira made a critical concession.

Due to the ongoing links between Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool raging on with the transfer window still open, the Magpies are in desperate need of a new striker, including the Norwegian.

Former Southampton striker Matt Le Tissier exclusively told Football Insider that he felt Newcastle’s opening bid for Strand Larsen of £50million was “overpriced”.

This hasn’t deterred Eddie Howe as the club returned with a reported £55m bid that was rejected by Wolves (Sky Sports).

Clearly, after Strand Larsen scored twice for Wolves against West Ham in the EFL Cup (26 August), the forward is becoming more and more attractive to the club on Tyneside.

According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie on X (27 August), the Magpies “are expected” to make an increased offer worth around £60m for the Norwegian as they seek to end their striker rejection streak.

After the victory against the Hammers, manager Pereira admitted that “every player has a price”, hinting towards a potential sale of the 25-year-old.

The number nine scored 14 goals in 38 appearances last campaign, highlighting his knack for scoring which the former Bournemouth manager is crying out for.

The Portuguese manager’s words suggest that, for the right price, the Wanderers would be willing to let go of their star striker despite reports that the Norwegian is not for sale this window.

Having just made his transfer permanent following a loan spell from Celta Vigo last season, the six-foot-four forward is clearly thought of highly by the Newcastle board.

Given they only have Willy Osula as a recognised striker at St James’ Park right now, the club need to quickly land the signature of Strand Larsen before the end of the summer.

The former Groningen target man hit the ground running last time out at Molineux and has valuable Premier League experience which Howe will be looking for in his new striking addition.

With the season already underway, the ex-Cherries boss cannot afford to have an attacker taking too long to adapt to life on Tyneside with Champions League football also fast approaching soon.

At such a young age and already showing signs of a mature mindset in front of the net, for me, the number nine should be a no-brainer for the Toon to sign.
