Newcastle United are tipped to dismiss offers for Kieran Trippier in the closing stages of the transfer window despite interest from Monaco.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that an offer from the Principality club could be a potential “head turner” for the 34-year-old at this stage of his career.

However, Eddie Howe is keen to keep him at St James’ Park as a result of his role in the starting XI and with his leadership and experience in the dressing room.

Ahead of their return to Champions League football, the Magpies are keen to keep a strong squad, and feel replacing the right-back could prove difficult.

Trippier has been subject to intense speculation since last summer, when it appeared a move to Saudi Arabia could be on the cards, while there was also interest in January.

Former Man United chief scout told Football Insider during the mid-season window that Trippier remains keen to stay at Newcastle and had snubbed Galatasaray.

This article contains exclusive comment from Paul Robinson, a football pundit and former England, Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper.

Football Insider revealed in December that Newcastle were planning to sell Trippier either in January or at the end of the season to maximise profit from his sale.

However, after what has been a difficult transfer window at St James’ Park, Howe is now determined to keep the core of his squad together.

Robinson explained that Trippier, who started for Howe in the first Premier League game of the season, remains a valuable part of the manager’s plans.

“I’m told by my sources they’re hoping to keep him around,” he told Football Insider.

“Monaco will be a bit of a head-turner for him, but when you look at what Newcastle have got, they’ve struggled to attract players.

“It’s been very, very difficult for Newcastle to bring anybody in.

“Everybody’s talking about Isak and his future, but until everybody knows what’s happening, [keeping] a player like Kieran Trippier is important.

“Look at the value they could get for him at his age, it’s hardly worth selling him.

“The value he brings to a Champions League side in the dressing room and on the pitch, you’d have to pay a lot more to replace a player like Trippier.

“It’s a no-brainer for them to hold on to him.”

Trippier is not the only player being linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer as Isak is widely expected to leave before the transfer deadline.

Football Insider revealed on 15 August that Isak will get his “dream” move to Liverpool as he remains on strike and refusing to play or train at Newcastle.

The Magpies are keen to move on from the “toxic” situation and may be forced to accept an offer before the window closes to allow all parties to focus on the season.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 3 August that Newcastle want to resolve Isak’s future quickly to put an end to the constant speculation.
