Liverpool have just 10 days remaining in which to do some vital business this summer.
The Reds have had a good window on the whole, but are in danger of leaving themselves short in a couple of key areas.
One of those is in central defence, where despite the arrival of Giovanni Leoni, Liverpool could still do with some reinforcements.
Over the last two months, it has become clear that Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is Liverpool’s preferred choice to add to the squad.
However, with Palace holding out for a bigger fee than the Reds are happy to spend, the transfer has hit a stalemate with time running out.
Guehi made his third Palace appearance of the season on Thursday as the Eagles beat Norwegian side Fredrikstad in the UEFA Conference League.
And, speaking pitchside after the game, chairman Steve Parish was asked about the centre-back’s situation.

There were reports from before kick-off on Thursday that Guehi’s move to Liverpool could take a step forward if Palace beat Fredrikstad comfortably ahead of the second-leg.
However, the south Londoners made hard work of the home tie, squeezing out a 1-0 victory.

As a result, it would seem unlikely that Guehi will be on the move before next Thursday’s second-leg.
That would leave just four days in which to sort a switch to Anfield.
According to Parish, though, there remains a chance that Guehi will leave unless he signs a new contract.

“If Marc wants to sign a new contract then he can stay!” said the chairman.
That’s a situation that we will have to look at in the next 11 days.”
Although Parish was seemingly open to selling Guehi – and has been for some time – his manager appears to feel differently.
Speaking animatedly after the match, Oliver Glasner shut the door on any chance of the 25-year-old leaving before next week’s return leg in Norway.
“We have to, especially for the second leg,” Glasner said when asked if Palace would hold onto Guehi.
“No injured player will come back and we cannot register anyone so we have to keep him.”
While clearly not ideal for Liverpool, with Guehi potentially risking injury by playing two more games in the meantime, this move cannot be ruled out until the deadline slams shut a week on Monday.
