Liverpool have one less option in their hunt for Jurgen Klopp’s successor with Julian Nagelsmann signing a fresh deal with the Germany national team.

The 36-year-old had initially been appointed as interim boss on a contract that was set to expire after this summer's home European Championships. However, he has now extended his tenure, calling it "a decision of the heart".

Nagelsmann was tentatively linked with the Liverpool position, albeit was never considered a frontrunner. His agent, Volker Struth, had revealed his client held talks with former employers Bayern Munich and other European clubs but all have been snubbed in favour of the national team.

Struth recently told the Spielmacher podcast: "It would be utter nonsense to say that we are not talking to interested parties without wanting to say who they are. All I can say is that it is not only Bayern Munich."

However, the DFB has now confirmed that Nagelsmann has penned a fresh two-year deal with Germany. The coach will stay in the role until after the 2026 World Cup, having won three of his six matches in charge since replacing Hansi Flick in September.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim is being profiled as the favourite for the Liverpool hot seat, while Roberto De Zerbi and Niko Kovac remain in the speculation picture. The ECHO revealed that, contrary to reports, no verbal agreement has been made with Amorim as Liverpool continue to conduct their search.

Journalist Pedro Sepulveda claims Amorim's agent has bought a new house in Liverpool for one of his employees, fuelling further speculation. Rumours of talks between the Sporting Lisbon coach and Liverpool still persist.
