Search Liverpool have enjoyed a strong start to the summer transfer window, but the arrival of one of their targets has been confirmed too early by Gary Lineker.

Gary Lineker has jumped the gun by accidentally announcing Liverpool have signed Bournemouth's Hungarian defender Milos Kerkez for £40million.

Following Jeremie Frimpong's £29.5m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool surpassed the Premier League transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz for £116m.

The Merseysiders confirmed the German international's transfer on Friday evening after prolonged talks.

It's also believed that left-back Kerkez is closing in on joining the Reds in a deal valued at about £40m.

The left-back, who scored two goals and provided six assists in 38 Premier League appearances last season, would push Liverpool's spending over the £200million mark if goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili's transfer is included in this year's figures, despite the fact that a deal with Valencia was agreed last summer.

It's also felt Liverpool are far from done with their summer transfer business.

They have also been reported to be considering a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, along with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

According to The Telegraph, Slot's team are particularly interested in Isak, who had an impressive run last season with 23 goals and six assists in 34 Premier League appearances.
