Tue 16 September 2025 15:42, UK

Nicolas Jackson’s plans for his future at Chelsea have been revealed as he prepares to face his parent club in the Champions League for Bayern Munich this week.

Jackson’s future at Chelsea was a huge topic of conversation throughout the summer after his poor performances at the Club World Cup, as Football Insider revealed before of the transfer deadline that Bayern Munich had opened talks to sign Jackson on loan.

Chelsea tried to cancel Jackson’s move to Bayern late on following Liam Delap’s hamstring injury against Fulham, but he did eventually seal the switch to the German giants on an initial season-long loan with an obligation-to-buy for £70million [Sky Sports].

However, Bayern chief Uli Hoeness joked that Jackson would not start the 40 games to sign permanently after his arrival, after revealing that he needed to hit such a target for the obligation to be taken up.

Jackson will also be able to play against Chelsea on Wednesday (17 September) as Bayern welcome the Blues in the Champions League, but his long-term future has been uncertain with a new reveal new detailing his thoughts on moving back to Stamford Bridge next summer.

The Daily Mail (16 September) have reported that Jackson has “no interest in returning” to Chelsea, despite his 40-game target at Bayern Munich being difficult to achieve to seal a definite permanent exit.

Jackson and his advisor Diomansy Kamara are believed to be taking little notice of those terms that Hoeness joked about, as they think that if the Senegal striker shows he can score, Bayern will find a way to sign him permanently next summer regardless of the current deal in place.

The Senegal international could join a list of players who have netted against their parent clubs in the Champions League in years gone by, with notable examples such as Philippe Coutinho scoring against Barcelona for Bayern in 2020, as well as Kingsley Coman against Juventus for the German giants in 2016.

If Jackson does score it would be his first ever goal in the Champions League, as he has not actually played in the competition yet during his time at Stamford Bridge or Villarreal before that.

His only experience in European games has been UEFA’s third-tier competition, with 10 Conference League appearances for Villarreal in 2022/23 and another three last season under Maresca as Chelsea won the tournament.

He is competing for places in attack with the prolific Harry Kane, who has scored 40 goals and notched 11 assists in 57 Champions League games, and so the Englishman will surely be picked to start at the Allianz Arena, but Jackson may well come on off the bench with the desire to haunt his parent club.
