Nicolas Jackson could be set to return to Chelsea after his loan spell at Bayern Munich following a strange saga.
Jackson completed his move to Bayern right before the transfer deadline, after falling out of favour under Enzo Maresca.
The loan deal includes an obligation to buy, but an executive of the German giants, Uli Hoeness, publicly revealed that the striker must start 40 games to trigger it.
Hoeness remarked that Jackson would “never do that”, which sparked fury from the player’s camp, but seemed to clearly indicate that he would return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes it was a “strange” comment to make, and it might have broken the terms of the loan deal to reveal details about it.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the Senegal international deserves a chance to prove himself in the Bundesliga.
Hoeness later claimed that he only meant to help Jackson with his comments, and that the striker can’t reach 40 starts anyway, as he goes to the Africa Cup of Nations midway through the campaign.

Wyness added that the Bayern board member is a “forthright” character, and questioned whether he was actually allowed to speak about the specifics of the agreement.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, there may be a clause where he wasn’t supposed to say that, and so there may well be some comeback on that.
You’d think that they’d wait and see how Jackson was playing, and if he was looking great, they’d carry on.
“Nicolas Jackson’s got a lot to convince me about, and he’s got a great chance here in the Bundesliga to go and do something.
I think you might see Uli Hoeness change his tune if he starts banging in a few hat tricks.
“I think it was a bit of a mistimed comment.
Let’s give Jackson a chance to show what he can do, and then I think the club will also change their tune as well.”
Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling is now set to remain at Chelsea until January after changing his mind on a move to a league where the transfer window is still open, sources have told Football Insider.

Both Fulham and West Ham held an interest in Sterling during the latter stages of the window but never made an official approach for the winger.
A move to Saudi Arabia is still an option for the 30-year-old, as the Saudi Pro League has a later transfer deadline than the Premier League.
However, as things stand, the out-of-favour attacker is happy to stay at Stamford Bridge despite not playing, and Chelsea will not be forcing him out the door.
