Former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has refuted speculation connecting him to the managerial position at Liverpool.
The Reds are facing an uncertain future as they prepare for the post-Jurgen Klopp era on Merseyside.
Klopp announced in January that he would be stepping down from his role as manager at the end of the season.
Since then, there has been ongoing speculation about who might succeed the German in the Anfield dugout.
Xabi Alonso, Ruben Amorim, Roberto De Zerbi, and Julian Nagelsmann have all been mentioned as potential candidates over the last three months.
In recent days, reports have surfaced suggesting that former Bayern Munich boss Kovac could be in line to take over at Liverpool.
A story in the Daily Mail stated that Kovac’s representatives have discussed the possibility of a move to a Premier League club in the summer, with Liverpool being a potential destination.
Kovac has now addressed these rumours while appearing on ‘Sport and Talk in Hangar 7’ for ServusTV.
The former Wolfsburg manager has dismissed the reports suggesting that he could be the next Liverpool boss.
“There’s no truth to Liverpool links emerged in the recent days,” he said.
“It’s not true”, told Sport & Talk at Hangar 7 on Servus TV.
Kovac was born in Berlin, Germany, and enjoyed a playing career as a defensive midfielder, captaining Croatia.
Transitioning into management, the 52-year-old secured the German Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018, followed by clinching the league and cup double as head coach of Bayern Munich a year later.
Additionally, he led AS Monaco from 2020 to 2022.
However, his tenure at Wolfsburg did not yield the desired results after an 11-game winless streak, leading to his departure in March.
Alonso was initially touted as the frontrunner to succeed Klopp at Liverpool earlier this year.
However, he has since declared his intention to remain at Bayer Leverkusen beyond the upcoming summer.
Recent reports are now suggesting that Amorim is emerging as the top contender for the vacant managerial position
Amorim has garnered attention for his impressive four-year tenure at Sporting Lisbon.
