The Reds have seen their title defence effectively ended by a poor run of form since the turn of the year that has left them facing a major task to earn a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.

Jurgen Klopp claims he isn't surprised by Liverpool's struggles this season and has urged players and supporters to keep faith the campaign can still be salvaged.

Klopp believes there should be no sympathy for Liverpool, who have claimed the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in the previous two seasons.

A run of four successive league defeats and the club's worst Anfield form in almost 100 years has prompted fierce criticism of Klopp and his squad.

And while unable to foresee the sheer extent of Liverpool's ongoing injury crisis, the Reds boss is adamant self-belief cannot waver over the closing months of the season.

"I refer to all of us in the LFC family: the players, the supporters and me and my staff also.

"I always expected the season would be like this," said Klopp.
