'No one will forget': Ibrahima Konate leads Liverpool player's goodbyes for 'brother' Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez completed his move from Liverpool to Al Hilal on Saturday after three complicated years with the Reds.

Nunez arrived with huge expectations and the chance to cement himself as the next great striker at Anfield.

But, although his time at Liverpool was by no means a failure, the Uruguayan could never quite live up to his billing.

Right from the get-go there were difficulties with Nunez.

Looking back, a sending off for a headbutt during the first half of his Anfield debut rather set the tone for a rollercoaster three years.

But despite Nunez’s occasional moments of madness, Liverpool supporters absolutely loved their former No.

The Liverpool squad also took Nunez to their hearts, and as he leaves for Saudi Arabia, many of them have been posting their goodbyes on social media.

When Nunez scored at the Kop end on Monday evening, he looked like a man very much at peace with what was about to happen.

He tapped the Liverpool badge and raised his hands to the crowd.

This was not a marriage ending on bad terms, simply with a mutual understanding that the time was right to part ways.

And once his move to Al Hilal had officially been announced, the thank yous and farewells from Liverpool teammates started to roll in.

“All the best my brother,” Ibrahima Konate posted on his Instagram stories.

“I’m going to miss you so much, you know how much I love you, no one will forget how important you were for the Premier League that we won last season.”

“Good luck my brother!” wrote Curtis Jones.

However, it does leave Liverpool a little light in forward areas.

There is an expectation that Liverpool will add to their attacking ranks in the final three weeks of the window, but Nunez leaving makes it a necessity.

There were claims on Saturday that Newcastle are actively blocking Alexander Isak from leaving, which could make for an interesting last few weeks of the summer.

But whether it is with Isak are someone such as Bradley Barcola, Liverpool need to make sure they act relatively quickly and get Nunez replaced.

The 26-year-old was far from perfect during his time with the Reds, but his place in the squad will still take some filling.
