Liverpool are interested in signing Florian Wirtz, with the Reds’ pursuit for the Bayer Leverkusen star reaching new heights over the weekend.
David Ornstein reported that Liverpool will win the race for Wirtz, with all signs suggesting that the Germany international will be making the move to Anfield this summer for a club-record transfer fee.
With club legend Steve McManaman excited for Wirtz to join Liverpool, the question of whether or not the attacking midfielder will join the Premier League champions is slowly becoming a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ the move happens.
And more light has now been shared on how much Liverpool offered Leverkusen in their bid to bring Wirtz to Merseyside.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool’s opening offer for Wirtz to Leverkusen over the weekend was €100m (£86m), with the Bundesliga side expected to demand more for the 22-year-old attacking midfielder.
Indeed, excitement around Wirtz joining Liverpool is building by the day, and the Reds making an opening offer for the German international could see an agreement be reached from all parties as early as this week.
Tavolieri wrote about Liverpool’s pursuit of Wirtz: “Positive talks are currently underway between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen following the submission of the first English offer of around €100m this weekend.

“Leverkusen will try to increase the total amount, and the structure of the payment still needs to be finalised, but all parties are aware that there’s no turning back now.
Florian Wirtz is just waiting for the green light from Bayer 04 before undergoing his medical.
A matter of time.”
Few Liverpool fans would have expected the Reds to be leading the chase for Wirtz this summer, yet with Manchester City and Real Madrid both dropping out of the race and Bayern Munich fumbling their interest in the 22-year-old, the Premier League champions have a straight shot at landing the Leverkusen star.
And whilst Liverpool’s opening bid for Wirtz has seemingly not hit the mark that Leverkusen were looking for, there is still plenty of optimism surrounding this deal to suggest that everything will go through sooner rather than later.
Indeed, Liverpool need to ensure that they step up their pursuit of the Bundesliga superstar in the coming days, and there’s a real chance that both teams can agree on a figure for the attacking midfielder, which will likely see the Reds make a club-record signing.
