‘Not at the level required’: Micah Richards suggests Liverpool 27-year-old not good enough to compete

The forthcoming summer transfer window is going to be one of the biggest in Liverpool’s recent history.

There is going to be so much change around Liverpool, with the biggest being the departure of Jurgen Klopp and what type of effect that has on everyone.

In normal circumstances, the Reds would be going again, filling in a few more holes via the summer transfer market and then having trust in Klopp to challenge for all trophies again.

But that’s clearly not going to happen because this might be a summer where big calls are made on the future of senior players, with Arne Slot expected to be announced as the new manager.

It’s going to be interesting to see what type of road he goes down because a number of these current players have been at the club for some while.

What doesn’t help some of their causes is Liverpool’s recent results and performances.

It has shocked, frustrated and disappointed many.

From the Merseyside derby defeat to Everton and then the dropped points against West Ham United at the weekend, with the Klopp-Mohamed Salah spat dominating headlines.

Micah Richards was speaking about Liverpool’s squad and how they have been unfortunate with certain injuries, highlighting Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, as he told The Rest is Football Podcast.

The former defender also pointed towards those players behind the fullback duo and how someone like Kostas Tsimikas isn’t at the level required for the first team.

The 27-year-old did sign a new contract at Anfield in 2023, but perhaps he will be one of the players that is moved on in the summer.

“I think as well, I think Trent, the injury to Trent as well.

The way Liverpool have played over the last couple of seasons, he has been one of the key driving forces behind their success,” said Richards.

“I think Robertson as well.

I think with Liverpool, I know people are talking about their strikers or their front-line, they have got the best probably in Europe, but in other key positions, Conor Bradley has done excellent when he has come into the team.

“I think when Robertson has not been playing, Tsimikas has not been at the level required, maybe in past seasons he has filled in when need be.”

Michael Edwards is back in the boardroom and fans will be hoping that there is a change in the quality of players they bring in.

In recent windows, the likes of Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Ryan Gravenberch have divided opinions with their performances and whether they are good enough to take the team to titles.

But if Liverpool can have the success they had during the early days of Edwards, then it does make Slot’s life a lot easier.

The only question here is.
