Michael Owen thinks he knows what is going through Alexander Isak's head(Image: YouTube/talkSPORT)
Money is not the driving factor behind Alexander Isak's desire to leave Newcastle United and join Liverpool, according to Michael Owen.
The Newcastle forward recently informed the Magpies that he would like to explore a move away from St James' Park.
The Reds had entertained a move for Isak a matter of days before Arne Slot's side signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79million.
Liverpool have already broken the Premier League transfer record this summer to sign Florian Wirtz for £116m, but they will likely have to do so again if they want to sign Isak.
Reports from Sky Sports Switzerland claimed an agreement has been reached with the Swede over a five-year contract.
Many believe money is usually the key motivator behind a player's desire to move on, but Owen, while reflecting on his decision to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid in 2004, insists a player like Isak will not be thinking about the financial implications of a move.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Owen also said it's a shame for the competitiveness of the Premier League many in Isak's position prefer to join the biggest teams in the division, instead of help their current clubs grow.
You've got one short career trying to win as much as you can, trying to get to the best team.
