Not just Alexander-Arnold: Five more Liverpool players may have played their final Reds match yesterday - opinion

Liverpool played their final game of the season on Sunday as they waved goodbye to a spectacular campaign.

It was a special day at Anfield, with Reds players finally getting their hands on the Premier League trophy.

The day was also notable as being Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s farewell to the club.

After almost a decade in the Liverpool first-team, Alexander-Arnold has chosen to walk away.

Fortunately, Liverpool supporters did not give the television stations and the rest of the country the satisfaction of booing Alexander-Arnold, with the Scouser more or less allowed to leave on his terms.

But while the focus continues to laser in on Alexander-Arnold, he was highly unlikely to be the only one making his final Liverpool appearance on Sunday.

As the Reds look ahead to a busy transfer window, at least five players who made it onto the pitch against Crystal Palace could have done so in a Liverpool shirt for the final time.

One of likeliest of this slightly unfortunate quintet to leave is Harvey Elliott.

Elliott has had a bit-part under Arne Slot this season and clearly does not have the Dutch coach’s favour.

Now 22 and perhaps desperate to break into the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, a move has seemed probable for a while.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

Elliott posted a photo of himself in tears at Anfield on Sunday, and while the cameras focused on Alexander-Arnold and his posturing, the youngster seemed genuinely upset.

The Uruguayan was once again left out of the starting line-up on Sunday, instead making only a 29-minute cameo.

Nunez’s last start for Liverpool came way back on March 8th, and with plenty of suitors in Europe and the Middle East, there is no hope left for his career at Anfield.

Nunez still seemed to enjoy the occasion on Sunday, though, saying goodbye to a mixed time with the Reds by sporting a new, cornrows style haircut.

The only starter from Sunday’s game who potentially looks like being sold is Luis Diaz.

Unlike Elliott and Nunez, Diaz has been a key player for Liverpool this season, and has actually had himself a very decent campaign.

An exit hangs in the balance.

Another who came off the bench on Sunday, Diogo Jota has slowly morphed into a slightly forgotten figure in this Liverpool team.

It may be unlikely that Liverpool sell both Jota and Nunez, but if a good offer comes in, Rousing The Kop understands that the Reds would entertain it.

The goals have dried up for the Portuguese, and although he managed half an hour on Sunday, he has dropped down the pecking order under Slot.

Fans will hope that Sunday’s 21-minute appearance was not the last time Wataru Endo pulls on a Liverpool shirt.

However, amid rumours that Endo is being targeted by Eintracht Frankfurt, it would not be a surprise if that were the case.

The 32-year-old only started one Premier League game all season and if he decides he wants to leave for more game time, few could argue with him.

As well as these five players who did manage to get on the pitch, a further four players could have already made their final Liverpool appearances.

Caoimhin Kelleher looks certain to leave having earned a place as starting goalkeeper somewhere, while the likely arrival of Milos Kerkez should see Kostas Tsimikas leave, too.

Meanwhile, centre-back pair Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah could also move on, with rumours swirling around both.

It seems unlikely that all nine of these players will be allowed to leave this summer, but we’d argue that at least four are nearly nailed on.
