A number of managers have been linked with the post since Klopp announced his plans to depart at the end of the season, back in January.

Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim is the current frontrunner but he has remained coy about taking over, while the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Julian Nagelsmann, as per The Athletic, have also emerged as contenders.

Nagelsmann will lead host nation Germany into this summer's European Championships but he is out of contract at the end of the tournament and is yet to sign an extension.



German FA chiefs hope he will stay on but there is a belief that he may look to return to club management.

That could open the door for Liverpool to make a move but it looks as though the Reds will have to battle former club Bayern Munich for his signature.

Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern last season and replaced by Thomas Tuchel but the ex-Chelsea boss will also depart at the end of the campaign.

It was reported by Sky Germany earlier this week that 'advanced talks' have already been held between Nagelsmann's representatives and the Bundesliga giants.

It would be complete nonsense to say that we are not talking to interested parties," he said on the Spielmacher - Der EM-Talk mit Sebastian Hellmann und 360Media podcast.

"Without saying who the interested parties are, I can only say that it is not just Bayern Munich.

Of course we are talking now."

Meanwhile, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was also asked about Nagelsmann returning to the club after the Champions League win over Arsenal.
