The passing of Liverpool striker Diogo Jota has created a tidal wave of support towards the player and his family.

Jota was in the process of travelling back to England for pre-season training with the Reds when he and his brother Andre Silva died in a road traffic accident.

Jota‘s death at just 28 has sent the footballing community into shock, with Liverpool at the epicentre of the pain.

Loved with very good reason by every Liverpool supporter, the Portuguese has become immortalised in his song ‘A lad from Portugal’, which is already hugely popular around Anfield.

If it was a hit on the terraces before, Jota’s song is now about to go stratospheric on Merseyside.

But Liverpool fans were not the only ones mourning the loss of a fan favourite on Thursday.

Wolves supporters also lost a player who was pivotal in their rise back to the Premier League.

And just as Liverpool have their Jota chant, Wolves fans seemingly have one too.

Only weeks ago, Jota bounced up and down and swung a red and white scarf around his head as he danced to the sound of the Kop singing his song.

It has been a comfort to many to know that the No.

20 was fully aware of just how much he was loved by the Liverpool faithful before his tragic death.

It was a little while longer since Jota heard the Wolves fans signing his name, but he no doubt felt as much love from the Midlands as he did from Merseyside.

Following his death, many Old Gold supporters have been posting the lyrics to a song for Jota on social media.

As X user ‘Official Wolves Fan’ posted: “It’s Diogo, not Diego, makes me happy, makes me feel this way,” with scores of others also following suit.

To the tune of ‘Ain’t Nobody’ by Chaka Khan, Liverpool fans will recognise the tune as one they occasionally serenade Joe Gomez with.

We love it.

Although Jota will forever be associated with Liverpool, he was a hugely important player for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves side in the late 2010’s.

Surprisingly arriving from Atletico Madrid into the then Championship club, Jota hit 44 goals in 131 games as Wolves went from the second division into Europe.

Just as he did at Liverpool, the Portuguese left a big mark, with Wolves posting a touching tribute to Jota on their club website on Thursday.

Fans also gathered at Molineux during the day to lay flowers and send their own messages of support to Jota and his family.

Despite being just 28 at the time of his death, Jota touched the lives of so many people up and down the football world.
