'Not pleasant for him': Gary Neville in shock after hearing what Liverpool fans sang at Alexander-Arnold today

Liverpool supporters took their chance to let Trent Alexander-Arnold know what they think of his decision to leave this summer as they booed him wildly against Arsenal.

The spotlight has been massively on Alexander-Arnold all week after he announced his intention to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Many had expected Arne Slot to leave the right-back out of the matchday squad after confirming that Conor Bradley would start earlier in the week.

But, for reasons only he will know, Slot decided to take Alexander-Arnold and put him on the bench at Anfield.

With Bradley still unable to complete a full 90 minutes, the Scouser was brought off the bench with 23 minutes left to play.

The reaction from the Anfield crowd was incredibly hostile, with Alexander-Arnold booed every time he touched the ball.

After Arsenal got one back and Alexander-Arnold came on, the mood turned.

In reality, there was no need for Slot to bring the 26-year-old on and he will surely now surmise that it was indeed a mistake.

For Neville, he simply couldn’t believe what he was hearing from those in the stands.

“Well, that’s not pleasant for him,” said the Man United legend.

“The song the Liverpool fans are singing is there’s only one Conor Bradley.”

“I don’t think I was expecting him to be booed as wildly as he has been when he’s been on the ball,” Neville later admitted.

“I don’t know if it shocked him, he’s closer to it.”

As well as hyping up Bradley when Alexander-Arnold came off, the Liverpool supporters were heard singing the name of legendary former captain Steven Gerrard.

“The Kop starts up Steven Gerrard’s song as Trent Alexander-Arnold waits on the touchline to come on,” noted journalist David Lynch on X.

The boos did die down a little as the game went on, but Alexander-Arnold was not safe at any point during the final 23 minutes.

If he was hoping for an easy exit from Anfield after running down his contract and quietly negotiating with Real Madrid over the past couple of years, the Liverpool academy graduate has been served an almighty reality check.

It was an ugly scene, Neville is perhaps right about that.
