Jurgen Klopp makes comment about Tottenham immediately after Liverpool’s defeat last night

Liverpool suffered a shock defeat against Everton last night, and Jurgen Klopp made a claim about Tottenham Hotspur right after the game.

The Reds have been dealt a huge blow in the title race.

Liverpool were going toe-to-toe with Manchester City and Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season, but following last night’s defeat, you would imagine they are out of the race.

All Jurgen Klopp‘s side can do now is win their remaining games and see where that takes them, but the German is not just looking ahead but behind him as well.

After the game last night, Klopp had something to say about Tottenham.

Jurgen Klopp makes Tottenham claim after Liverpool’s defeat to Everton

Liverpool are now three points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal having played the same amount of games as Mikel Arteta’s side.

Manchester City are just a point behind the Reds but they have two games in hand.

Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title are now hanging by a thread, but it looks like Jurgen Klopp is concerned about something else too.

Speaking about where his side will finish in the table this season, Klopp made a surprise admission that a top-four place is no longer a guarantee for his side.

The two clubs behind Liverpool right now other than Manchester City – Aston Villa and Tottenham – are currently eight and 14 points behind the Reds respectively.

That is a significant gap, albeit Spurs have two games in hand, but Klopp has suggested that Tottenham could leapfrog them in the table before the season ends next month.

He said on BBC Match of the Day: “We need them to lose games and historically they don’t do that. Arsenal didn’t look very weak last night. We have to play better, that is it.

“We need points. We are not safe in the Champions League. Tottenham have played a lot of games less than us.”

Tottenham and Liverpool’s remaining games compared

Even if Tottenham win their two games in hand, they would still be eight points behind Liverpool.

However, if they beat the Reds when they face them next month, that gap could reduce to five points and the pressure will be on Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool will have to be careful, but there’s no real need for concern about dropping below third in the table for Klopp and his team.

Yes, they haven’t been great recently, but they are still a quality side, and they will back themselves to bounce back and get good results in their last four games.

Liverpool’s fixture list is a lot easier compared to Spurs’ as well. Here’s a look at that…
