Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo revealed on Friday that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis has worsened.

On 22 August, reports emerged that Espirito Santo could be sacked, and the 51-year-old weighed in on the situation during his press conference.

The controversy has arrived, although Forest have enjoyed a largely successful summer transfer window, and beat Brentford 3-1 in their opening Premier League fixture on Sunday, 17 August.

Even though Anthony Elanga joined Newcastle United, the East Midlands club will be pleased to have retained Morgan Gibbs-White despite strong interest from Tottenham, while Douglas Luiz and James McAtee are strong additions.

The revelations at the City Ground on Friday may have damaged Forest’s preparations for their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday, 24 August.

Meanwhile, weighing in on the latest twist at Nottingham Forest, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook took to X on 22 August: “NFFC sources have dismissed reports Marinakis was considering changing manager but these comments from Nuno only fan the flames.

Not unusual at Forest tbf.”

Amid their busy transfer window, Forest are set to miss out on re-signing Matty Cash from Aston Villa.

The Poland international has excelled in the West Midlands since joining Unai Emery’s men from Forest back in 2020, helping them reach the Champions League quarter-finals last term.

Meanwhile, after Espirito Santo’s damning comments regarding Marinakis, the Forest owner must make a quick decision on whether to keep or sack the former Wolves boss.

Espirito Santo did a remarkable job last season, steering his club to European football after previously enduring a relegation battle.

However, now that the working relationship between the 51-year-old and Marinakis has soured in the public eye, Forest’s boss could face the sack soon.

Espirito Santo’s squad would likely be devastated to witness his departure after what he has done for them, but an ongoing saga with Marinakis could damage their chances of enjoying another successful Premier League campaign.
