'Nothing going on': Title-winning star says Liverpool transfer is 'last thing on my mind'

A potential move to Premier League giants Liverpool is ‘the last thing’ on David Hancko’s mind with the ink still drying on defender’s new contract at Eredivisie champions Feyenoord.

Just weeks after the Slovakia international’s agent confirmed that there is indeed interest from both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, David Hancko put pen to paper on fresh terms at De Kuip.

Even the most optimistic Feyenoord supporter would have to admit, however, that the chances of Hancko staying in Rotterdam until his deal expires in the summer of 2028 look slim.

With interest from two of Europe’s biggest clubs – HITC understands that Liverpool have identified Hancko as one of a number of left-sided centre-back targets – that new contract is unlikely to scupper any hopes of a transfer but rather strengthen Feyenoord’s hand and ensure the Dutch champions can extract maximum value from a key player.

Hancko, just three days after scribing his name on the dotted line, is keen to put the speculation to bed for the time being, reluctant to let his focus slip from the matter at hand.

“Difficult question,” the former Sparta Prague ace tells Voetbal Primeur when asked if he will still be a Feyenoord player beyond September 2024.

“The transfer window is closed, there is nothing going on now.

So, a transfer is the last thing on my mind.”

HITC understands that, in addition to Hancko, Liverpool also like Chelsea’s Levi Colwill.

The Premier League leaders also had scouts watching Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-0 hammering of Bayern Munich on Saturday, with Piero Hincapie playing a key role in what could be the key moment in an enthralling Bundesliga title race.

The Ecuadorian’s representative admitted that Liverpool had shown an interest in the summer of 2023, Jurgen Klopp’s side putting Hincapie on the backburner at a time in which midfield reinforcements were a more pressing concern.
