Nottingham Forest and Brentford have been suggested as viable suitors for Chelsea’s unwanted man Raheem Sterling.

The Englishman continues to be on the fringes under Enzo Maresca as he looks to push a move away from Stamford Bridge.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Arsenal but was ineffective, scoring just once in 28 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Now back at his parent club, the England international is facing a long season in the reserves unless he can find a new home.

Former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 31 July that Sterling would prefer a move to Fulham.

Given his experience and that many Premier League clubs have a right-wing vacancy, the wide man is on the radar of other top-flight suitors.

Speaking on talkSPORT (5 August), former Aston Villa frontman Gabby Agbonlahor felt there were many mid-table sides who should pursue the ex-Liverpool man.

He said: “But, is there a club in the Premier League that could do with that experience and what he [Sterling] can still offer as a player?

“Yes there is…Brentford, is there West Ham, is there clubs around that mid-table mark that could do with a Raheem Sterling?

The former Villain offered some interesting alternatives for where the Chelsea outcast could go next season

“Because, yes Arsenal last season he didn’t look the Raheem Sterling of Liverpool or of Manchester City, but still I think there is a level in there that he can in the Premier League.”

One listener commented on-air: “Nottingham Forest should go for Raheem Sterling.”

Agbonlahor replied: “[Forest] lost [Anthony] Elanga, why not?”

Football Insider verdict

Whilst the suggestion that Forest could swoop in for the 30-year-old is viable, the signing of Dan Ndoye from Bologna would see the Englishman be a bench-warmer if he were to go to Nottingham.

The Hammers also offer a potential option for the wide man, yet the form of Jarrod Bowen would likely see Graham Potter under utilise the experienced forward.

Staying in London, both the Cottagers and the Bees present themselves as enticing possibilities for Chelsea’s number 30.

Indeed, Harry Wilson’s pre-season form has been excellent thus far and the Welshman may be gunning to hold down the right flank for the start of the new season.

But, with Adama Traore linked with a move to Nottingham Forest and Reiss Nelson still unable to find a way back to Craven Cottage, there is an opening for Sterling to prove himself to Marco Silva should he take a chance.

For Brentford, the loss of talisman Bryan Mbeumo to Man United has allowed Fabio Carvalho to get himself in line to become a regular starter under Keith Andrews.

The former Liverpool man has racked up the minutes in pre-season, but a more experienced presence of the England international may be preferred by the new manager should they land him on loan.
